Squaw Valley Academy Middle School
Grades 6-8
Boarding & Day Students
The SVA Middle School is a self-contained program
designed to meet the individual academic and social needs of the
middle school child. At SVA, we recognize that middle school students
have unique developmental needs; therefore, most classes occur separately
from high school students.
SVA middle school students enjoy outdoor education to support our
philosophy of thematic project-based learning. For example, students may experience a living history field trip, and engage in journal writing based on the book, Roughing It by Mark Twain, using Lake Tahoe for one of the settings. They may collect water samples in the Truckee River after an afternoon
of wading and swimming. These outdoor field trips are a positive,
hands-on way for students to learn the material. These kinesthetic experiences help prepare students for
the SVA high school curriculum.
Fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges,
Squaw Valley Academy meets the California state standards for middle
and high school students. Our faculty prepares students for the
college of their choice by meeting the standards for the University
of California system. Our graduates maintain a 100%
college acceptance rate into an average of three universities
or colleges.
